OIL PALM

All the estates of the Oil Palms Group are situated around the foot of mount Cameroon where they benefit from the rich volcanic soil. The oldest estate is Mungo while the youngest is Illoani. The estates also enjoy the tropical climate with favourable rainfall and sunshine. Each estate has an estate office and a residential quarter for the workers. Some of the estates have schools and churches and in places where it is difficult to retain teachers, CDC employs and pays some qualified teachers who teach children of these estates and neighbouring villages.


PALM HARVESTING

The activities of the group involves cultivation, upkeep, harvesting, collection and transporting of products to the mills. The quality of the crop produced depends the cultivation and upkeep technique which involves weeding, slashing, pruning and disease control. Most of the harvesting is contracted out to Palm Harvesting Contractors (PHC). There are also outgrowers whose plantations are supervised by CDC and the crops processed by CDC.

Production is evaluated as the weight of Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) produced.

The Oil Palms Group is in charge of growing oil palm products for finished products that are sold locally (palm oil, palm kernel). The Department operates seven estates namely Bota, Debundscha, Idenau, Illoani, Mungo, Mondoni and Benoe Palms Estates. It also has two mills in Idenau and Mondoni. In all, the estates are found in the Ndian and Fako Divisions of the South West Province of Cameroon.


OIL PALM NURSERY

Each estate is run by an Estate Manager who is an agronomist and the mill is run by a Mill Manager who is an engineer. Each unit has Field of Mill Supervisors and an Accountant that help to run the affairs of the unit. The Group Oil Palms office situated at Bota is the main Administrative unit that co-ordinates the activities of the entire group. The staff of this office constitutes the Group Manager, the Crop Group Accountant, the Human Resources Officer, the Group Management Contoller and the Industrial Quality Manager who controls the Mills.
