Commonwealth
Parliamentarians In CDC Precints
Some
members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, (C.P.A.)
who attended the African regional conference in Cameroon, visited
the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC on Tuesday, August2,
2005.
This provided them the rare opportunity of learning what the
CDC has been doing since her inception close to sixty years
in the areas of cash crop production and the sustenance of workers
and their families.
The GM and his closest collaborators met the visiting parliamentarians,
led by Hon. Rose Abunaw Makia, Vice President of Cameroon's
National Assembly at the SS Club, Bota. Most of the parliamentarians
commended the General Manager's ingenuity reflected in his mastery
of the technical, economic and administrative operations of
the complex agro-industry.
At the conclusion of the deliberations the visitors learnt that
CDC's total rubber output makes up less than two per cent of
the crop's world production. And as such, the corporation has
no leverage in determining prices in the world market, as major
producers do.

MBONGE
TO KOMPINA
In
compliance with the resolutions of Mbonge 2004, the Kompina Management
Staff Meeting of Friday, July 15, 2005 was an assessment of the
workability of the policy put in place by Management in order
to boost production.
From
all indications, as shown in the case studies of Debundscha Palms
and Missellele Rubber Estates, the new orientation appears to
be the most plausible approach in our quest to improve and stabilize
our production.
It should be recalled that on December 18, 2004 all Estate Managers
were accorded a six months probation in their posts and empowered
to run the estates autonomously while Head Office played a supervisory
role.
Earlier, the General Manager, Mr. Henry Njalla Quan, gave a resumé
of activities of the Corporation and that of the workers. He concluded
by calling on all to be more committed to the task of marching
forward. |

Small
Holders and Outgrowers Cry Out Small
Holder farmers and Outgrowers of rubber have cried out bitterly
against CDC Management for non-payment for crops already supplied.
In a bid to know more about the recent developments, they were
surprised to learn that payments have been temporarily withheld
pending investigations being carried out by the Plan and Development
Department.
The matter assumed a more serious dimension recently as several
large heaps of cuplumps were dumped along the Likomba round-about
- Tiko road. A similar case of dumping was also reported at Mukonje.
This has provoked a series of protests and threats from the affected
farmers. Their alleged production capacity, based on the sizes
of their farms, is supposed to be smaller than they purport to
have harvested from these farms. The weighbridge personnel, armed
with foreknowledge of the actual registered sizes of the contractors'
farms would not accept any unjustified quantity of crops. On the

have made very serious and implicating allegations that need to
be ascertained by Management. They claim that the registered hectares
as reflected in CDC documents are figures of long past years.
They maintain that their farms have increased in size and the
present actual sizes have never been determined for a very long
time by any CDC personnel. |

GM
Castigates Slugglish Managers
The General Manager
of the Corporation, Mr. Henry Njalla Quan, has vehemently castigated
a set of slugglish Managers whom through negligence and unexplained
reasons have defied important instructions meant for the smooth
functioning of the zone to which they are attached.
He lashed out heavily at them during a follow up meeting held
with all Managers at the SS Club on Tuesday September 20, 2005.
The serious berating was sparked by the Head Office Management
Controller's (HOMC) report. The HOMC who is the coordinator of
Mangers activities gave a good report for all but one group, the
West Coast group comprising of Idenau, Debundscha, Bota and the
Industrial Unit Managers. As
the reserved words of encouragement for the other Managers, the
GM expressed very uncomplimentary comments for the defaulters
for showing poor attitude towards duty. To back words with action
he ordered for queries to be served to the Managers within two
days. |
GM Lashes Out
|
|
In his
determined effort to instill a sense
of duty to all, he categorically stated that "the option
for decentralization in the CDC. He reminded them of the fact
that the Estates are the centers for all CDC activities and
this is why Managers are made more comfortable. In conclusion,
he called in very strong and unequivocal terms for a set of
homogenous Managers who must seek to harmonise their activities
thus making the group meetings a condition sine qua non to success.

Impressive
stride by CDC Cottage Hospital Social Club The
President of Tiko Cottage Social Club, Mr. Tobias Fonjock, has
hailed the Exco-members of the club as he harped on the success
of the eight-year-old association during their annual come together,
on July 30, 2005.
Speaking during the occasion, Mr. Fonjock stated that the club
has succeeded in putting an end to the misery that hit the credit
unions in 1997. The club members are now capable of tackling their
financial problems such as education and construction of houses
without hitches. Worthy of note is the fact that the conception
of the idea of creating a social club came up as a result of the
financial hardship and misery caused by the financial crisis that
struck the credit union in 1997. The
main objective of the club is to provide financial assistance
to its members.
In this light, the club
president said the club grants loans
at minimal rates and gives room for savings that are disbursed
with profits at the end of the year.
