MEDICAL AND HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT

   

The mission of the Medical and Health Services is to maintain a healthy CDC workforce and environment. Its main functions are to provide preventive medical services to the workers and dependants, provide quality curative health care services to the workers and dependants, liaise with National and International health organizations and donors in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

It also provides health care services to non-CDC population who pay for such services. To carry out these functions, the department employs the services of ten (10) Medical Doctors (2 Specialists and 8 GPs) and three hundred and seventy four (374) paramedical staff. The unit is headed administratively by the Director Medical & Health Services.

The MHSD is made up of the following units:

  • Directorate of the MHS Department
  • Six Medical Units each with a resident Doctor covering at least two Estates
  • Two Hospitals - CDC Cottage Hospital Tiko, which is the main hospital, has a 140 bed capacity, and CDC Hospital Mukonje which serves the Northern Zone of the Corporation with a 54 bed capacity

Each Estate has a Clinic attached to it except the estates that are very close to the two main hospitals, amounting to 17 Clinics in the corporation. Each Estate Clinic has an ambulance service to facilitate the movement of patients within the Estate or between the Estates and the hospitals. Bota Clinic which is located within the environs of the Corporation Head Quarters has a modern maternity, lying in wards and a laboratory.

There are also 2 Family Planning Units in Tiko and Mukonje with Tiko serving as the main Centre

The Tiko Central Clinic which is located within the Head Quarters of the Medical and Health Services Department has an Out Patient Unit, X-ray Unit, Laboratory, Pharmacy, an Infant Welfare Clinic/Ante Natal Clinic and family planning Unit.

CDC also engages the services of other Specialist not permanently employed by the Corporation notably: Ophthalmologist, Cardiologist and Dental Surgeons. Patients are equally referred to Specialist Hospitals (General Hospital Douala and Laquantine) and exceptional cases are evacuated to Europe for proper medical care.

Notably in the domain of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, Family Planning, the department enjoys a lot of collaboration with national and international organizations e.g. John Hopkins University, USAID, CNLS. The CD Cottage Hospital in Tiko is one of the reorganized HIV/AIDS treatment centres in the South West Province of Cameroon.

This Camps & Compound Unit handles the cleanliness of Corporation compounds as well as organizing and supervising the cleanliness of toilets in all Corporation Camps. It gives out contracts for sewage and refuse disposal in all Corporation areas.
