Ripe CDC/Del Monte Exported Banana Ready for Consumption

The Banana sector is being managed in partnership with a foreign partner, Del Monte at Tiko and exclusively by CDC at Ekona. The mission is to grow and market Banana as an export produce. There are two main plantations at Ekona and Tiko.

Banana Plantation at Tiko

Ekona plantation is located at Molyko in Buea sub-division and is the smaller of the two with only 190 hectares. Its management as at today is directly by CDC and the fruit is sold to Del Monte. Tiko plantation is managed by the CDC/Del Monte partnership. This partnership started in 1987 and has successfully operated up to today. In this partnership, Delmonte provides the Technical Services, Marketing facilities and Finances while CDC provides Suitable Land, Manpower and Local logistics. Delmonte pays CDC cost plus a fixed margin per box of banana exported.

All the plantations are fully irrigated during the dry period of the year. Fruit from the fields are moved to the packing stations on cable-way which is a technology unique to the CDC among the banana producing companies in Cameroon.
